First bee to be listed as Endangered
Sad to say but the Rusty patched Bumble bee has been listed as endangered.
The Apis bombus affinis is a subspeecies of Bumble bee known for a patch of red on its thorax. The bee once flourished in 35 states in the Midwest, now can only be found in pockets of 10 as well as select areas of Canada.
Apparently the posting date of the listing was scheduled for February 10th but was backlogged due to current events.
Hopefully under the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the population of the Rusty patch will find themselves off the list.
Think about this the next time you're walking to your car from the supermarket, or driving through a fast food business. What once was grassland and trees is now concrete and buildings.
We need to preserve some of our land in order to allow bees to have a natural environment to flourish.
